Winning school in “Change for Kids” contest announced

WATERTOWN, NY — It’s day two of the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Radiothon hosted by The Border 106.7 and 94 Rock. One of the largest contributions to the Radiothon so far is the “Change for Kids” contest, which ran in 15 local schools and two businesses throughout the month of October and leading up to the three-day Radiothon.

Just before noon today during the live broadcast, DJ Johnny Spezzano from The Border 106.7 announced the grand total collected and donated to CMN – $5,299.69. And for the second year in a row, Carthage Middle School raised the most with a final tally of $1,391.98. The school will receive a live performance by local artist Eddie Cito.

“I am so proud of and grateful to each of the schools that participated in this year’s ‘Change for Kids’ contest, as well as the students, faculty, families and friends who made this year’s contest so successful to help local kids,” said Kristin LaClair, CMN Development Manager. “And we definitely couldn’t do it without the tremendous help from Watertown Savings Bank, which has generously accepted the challenge of counting all of the dollars and coins collected. We so appreciate their support!”

The CMN Radiothon continues through 6 p.m. today and from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. tomorrow as DJs Johnny Spezzano from the Border 106.7 and Lance Hale from 94 Rock are live on-air asking listeners to call in (315-755-KIDS) or text borderkids to 51555 pledge their support by making a one-time donation or by becoming a “Miracle Maker” monthly donor.

Tune in to hear the extraordinary stories of courage and hope from these children, families and Samaritan Medical Center staff are being featured during the three-day event. These poignant trials and triumphs are sure to tug at heart strings throughout the tri-county community, compelling hundreds of people to support this great cause.

Since 2000, this annual event has raised over $1 million. In 2017 alone, a total of $103,079 was raised. $80,270 was used to purchase critical pediatric equipment for child-centered areas of care at Samaritan Medical Center, including the Neonatal ICU, pediatrics, maternity, surgical services and the emergency department. $34,420 went toward direct financial assistance to families of local children dealing with serious health issues, including travel, medical and equipment expenses.
