WATERTOWN, NY — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office released the following statement on Nov. 20:
“On September 20, 2023, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motor vehicle accident involving an Amish buggy on County Route 2, Town of Alexandria.
Two Amish children died as a result of the collision, and four other occupants of the buggy received medical treatment for various injuries. The operator of the vehicle, Charlene T. Kring, was uninjured.
After an extensive investigation, it was found that speed and distracted driving were contributing factors leading to the collision.
As a result, Charlene T. Kring was arrested on November 20 at the Jefferson County Public Safety building for two counts of Criminally Negligent Homicide.
Ms. Kring is to appear at Jefferson County CAP Court next month to be arraigned on the charges.”
