WPD: Two arrested after fracas in front of tavern on Public Square

WATERTOWN, NY —   Deshawn M. Thomas, 28, of 2 Allister Circle, East Northrop, was charged by Watertown police at 2:19 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at 86 Public Square with resisting arrest and second-degree obstruction of governmental administration. Mr. Thomas is accused of attempting to prevent the authorized arrest of Natalie Chandler by picking her up and attempting to carry her away from a police officer as he attempted to arrest her at about 2:16 a.m. Friday outside Whistler’s Tavern, 107 Public Square, police said. He is additionally accused of attempting to prevent a police officer from placing him in a patrol vehicle for transport and prevented police from closing the vehicle doors following the arrest, according to court documents. He was released to military custody and summoned to appear Nov. 12 in City Court.

Natalie L.R. Chandler, 29, of 1530 6th Ave., Watervliet, was charged by Watertown police at 2:16 a.m. Friday Oct. 25, outside Whistler’s Tavern, 107 Public Square, with disorderly conduct. Ms. Chandler is accused of engaging in a physical altercation with an unknown male in front of the tavern while a crowd was present, police said. She was released to military custody and summoned to appear Nov. 12 in City Court.
