WPD Update: 49-year-old man accused of shooting another in his legs

WATERTOWN, NY —  The Watertown Police Department released the following statement on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022:

“On 09/10/2021 at 9:42 p.m. we investigated a shooting at the intersection of State St and William St in the City of Watertown.

It was alleged that Marcus Taylor shot a 29-year-old male in the legs. The 29-year-old male was hospitalized due to his injuries.

Marcus Taylor was located at 24097 NYS Rt 12 in the Town of Watertown, NY. He was taken into custody at 10:01 p.m.

Marcus Christopher Taylor, a 49-year-old male, who resides at 24097 State St Rt 12 in Watertown, NY, was charged with two Class B Felonies: Assault in the 1st
degree and Criminal Use of a Firearm in the 1st degree.

He is being held pending arraignment.

We were assisted in this investigation by the New York State Police, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the Metro Jefferson Drug Task Force, the Watertown City Fire Department, and Guilfoyle Emergency Medical Service.

Update: Mr. Taylor was arraigned at 8:35 a.m. Sunday before City Court Judge Anthony M. Neddo who set bail at $75,000 cash. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday in City Court. Judge Neddo also ordered Taylor to avoid all contact with the victim.
