WPD Update: Man ticketed for rollover accident on Holcomb Street

WATERTOWN, NY — The Watertown Police Department issued the following statement about a recent accident in the 600 block of Holcomb Street:

On Tuesday, 01/28/2020, at 6:39 PM, our patrol officers were detailed to a report of a motor vehicle accident in the 600 block of Holcomb St. in our City. Upon arrival, the officers found an idling 2015 Hyundai Elantra on its roof with the rear of the vehicle resting on a 2003 Dodge Ram pickup truck.

Neither vehicle was occupied, but the driver of the Hyundai was found nearby in the street.

He was identified as 24 year old Timothy C. Peters of 1340 Holcomb St. Watertown, NY. He advised he was driving the Hyundai south on Holcomb St. and stopped at the intersection of Paddock Street. He continued south on Holcomb St and looked down to change music on his phone. When he looked up, he saw the unoccupied parked truck and attempted to swerve around it. His vehicle struck the rear of the truck, which caused the Hyundai to roll onto its roof.

Mr. Peters was examined by Guilfoyle Ambulance personnel and declined further
treatment.

He was cited with NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law infraction: 1225-d Operating a motor vehicle while using an electronic device.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
