Mackenzie L. Abbott, 13, Castorland

CASTORLAND, NY — Mackenzie L. Abbott, 13, of Old State Road passed away Sunday, May 19, 2019, at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, Syracuse.

The funeral services will be said 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2019, at Croghan Mennonite Church, Croghan. Burial will be 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2019, in Woodside Cemetery, Belleville. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday May 23, 2019, at Croghan Mennonite Church.

Mackenzie was born on Nov. 9, 2005, in Watertown, NY, a beloved daughter of Shawn and Heather Barker Abbott. She was known to her family as “Kenzie Lou” and “Little Red”.

She was a 7th grade student at Beaver River Central School. Mackenzie was very athletic and was a member of the modified track, volleyball, and swim teams.

She was loving, caring, and spunky and enjoyed the outdoors and animals, running and dancing. She loved little ones, especially babies.

Mackenzie always put other people first and touched many people’s lives with her smile. She always told everyone to: “Be Yourself”.

Surviving are her parents, Shawn and Heather Abbott of Castorland; a brother, Mason Abbott, a sister Madison Abbott, both of Castorland; maternal grandparents Cheryl Barker of Sandy Creek, David Bates, of Mexico, NY; paternal grandparents, Brian and Deborah Hopper of Stanley, Beverly Abbott of Mannsville;. She is also survived by many aunts and uncles, Rachel and Chad Zehr, Joshua and Kirstin Abbott, Erin and Justin Wagschal, Jenny and Daniel Webster, Amanda Hopper, Kaitlyn Hopper, great aunts and uncles, and many cousins.

She was predeceased by her paternal grandfather, Michael J. Abbott.
